About Stephanie Napolitano

About Me

I am a licensed mental health counselor in New York State, a certified grief counselor through the American Academy of grief counseling at AIHCP, a certified grief counseling specialist through Evergreen Certifications, and I have a certificate in Contemplative care from the New York Zen Center for Contemplative Care. I am also trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), Prolonged Grief Therapy (Level 2) and a member of the Association for Death Education and Counseling (ADEC) and the American Psychedelic Practictioners Association (APPA). I have over 12 years of psychiatric clincal research experience through various positions at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.

I have experience working with a variety of losses, including the death of loved ones and losses due to medical illness. I also have an understanding of end-of-life concerns from both the caregiver and client perspectives.

My experience includes Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), meditation and mindfulness practice, grief and loss, illness and medical issues, end-of-life support, caregiver issues or stress, mindfulness-based cognitive therapy, adjusting to change and life transitions, veteran issues and Psychedelic Harm Reduction and Integration therapy.

My Approach and Values

I am committed to supporting my clients through the entirety of their grief process, assisting them with the challenge of adapting to life after loss, helping my clients accept the losses and experience the emotions that loss inevitably brings up, adjust to their life after loss(es), and find connections concerning their loss(es).

I am passionate about changing the way we view grief and approach the grieving process. I believe that grief is more than just a symptom that needs to be treated. I view grief as a process that varies from person to person and does not follow a specific pattern of emotion and behavior or timeline.

I incorporate contemplative and mindfulness practices as appropriate, including mindfulness-based cognitive techniques. I view each individual holistically, considering their mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual aspects of my client to move toward healing.

I view the client-counselor relationship as a partnership, believing that when clients are provided with the appropriate conditions and a safe space to explore, they will naturally grow and heal. I understand that grief and adapting to life after loss is not linear, and is unique to each client. Therefore, I am flexible with my approach, meeting each client where they are, and viewing the whole person, not just a list of symptoms.

About My Services

I utilize a video-based, HIPAA-compliant platform to conduct all sessions. I currently do not accept insurance.
